Building permits

Ask before you start.

4 min read

Many projects need a permit so they're inspected for safety.

Often needed for

  • Electrical and plumbing changes
  • Water heater and furnace replacement
  • Structural changes and additions
  • Decks, fences over certain heights, and roofs

Why it matters

Unpermitted work can cause problems with insurance claims and when you sell. Check with your city or county building department.

General information only. Turn off power and water first, and hire a licensed pro for gas, major electrical and structural work. The Clever Haven isn't paid by any contractor, store or brand.
